Manganiyar Seduction
About
Created by theatrical director Roysten Abel in 2006, Manganiyar Seduction is an amazing theatrical-style musical ensemble of more than 40 singers and musicians from the Rajasthani deserts serving an astonishing audio-visual feast.
The Manganiyars are a caste of Muslim musicians who are predominantly settled in the districts of Jaisalmer, Barmer & Jodhpur, in the heart of India’s Thar Desert.
Their repertoire ranges from ballads about the kings to Sufi poems written by various mystics.
Set up on the stage is a four-storey bank of small pods, each one framed by lightbulbs which are occupied by a single performer who is illuminated whenever his voice or playing joins the extended piece of music being performed.
The concept creates a dazzling union between the Manganiyar's music & the visual seduction of Amsterdam’s red light district on a set inspired by Hawa Mahal in Jaipur.
Manganiyar Seduction now performs worldwide enthralling the audience with their earthy, free-spirited voices & folk music.
