Nambi Narayan

Ex-Indian Aerospace Scientist at ISRO | Padma Shri Awardee | Author

About

Nambi Narayan, a prominent ex-Indian aerospace scientist at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is celebrated for introducing liquid propellant technology. He is also recognized for his role in developing the Vikas engine, which has been integral to numerous ISRO missions, including the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV). His groundbreaking work not only propelled India's space program forward but also paved the way for indigenous advancements in rocket propulsion technology.

Nambi's journey into the realm of space exploration began as a technical assistant at the Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station in 1966. He pursued a master's program in chemical rocket propulsion at Princeton University, funded by the Government of India.

However, Nambi's career trajectory was marred by unjust persecution. In 1994, he was wrongfully arrested on fabricated charges of espionage, causing immense personal and professional turmoil.

Despite enduring a harrowing legal battle, Nambi was vindicated when the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) deemed the charges baseless in April 1996. The Supreme Court of India subsequently cleared him, dismissing all accusations and prohibiting further investigation by the Government of Kerala.
