Mohammad Azharuddin, a former Indian captain, and politician, is famed for hitting some really exquisite strokes with his wrists to full effect.
Azharuddin is the only Indian captain to have led the team in three World Cups. He captained India in 1992, 1996 & 1999. He is the only cricketer with the distinction of scoring a century in each of his first three Tests.
He scored a century in his very first game in an Indian jersey as well as in the last Test match of his career and is still remembered for his exemplary leadership and team-building skills.
Azharuddin joined politics in 2009 under the Indian National Congress party and won from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh to become a member of the parliament of India. He currently holds the position of working president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee.
Based on his life, a book titled Azhar was published by Harsha Bhogle in 1994.
In 2016, a Bollywood film Azhar, based on his life was made featuring Emraan Hashmi as Mohammad Azharuddin.
He currently serves as the chairman of the Hyderabad cricket board since 2019.

He received the ‘Padma Shri’ for recognition of his distinguished contribution to the field of sports, in 1988
He was named ‘Wisden Cricketer of the Year’ in 1991.
