Amol Mazumdar

About
Amol Muzumdar is the head coach of the India women’s national cricket team and one of the most respected names in Indian domestic cricket. Since taking charge in October 2023, he has guided the team to new heights, most notably their first-ever ICC Women’s ODI World Cup triumph in November 2025.
Known for his calm, analytical approach and strong understanding of the game, Muzumdar has shaped the side into a confident, balanced unit capable of performing under pressure. Before stepping into coaching, Amol enjoyed an outstanding domestic career that spanned over two decades.
A technically sound right-handed batter, he represented Mumbai, Assam, and Andhra Pradesh, scoring over 11,000 first-class runs at an average of 48.13, including 30 centuries.
His unbeaten 260 on Ranji Trophy debut for Mumbai in the 199394 season remains one of the most memorable innings in Indian domestic cricket and was a world record for the highest score by a debutant at the time.
Despite his prolific record, his international career never materialised due to India’s packed middle order featuring stalwarts like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, and VVS Laxman. After retiring in 2014, Muzumdar transitioned smoothly into coaching, taking up diverse roles across domestic and international setups.
He worked as the batting coach for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, head coach of the Mumbai Ranji team, and batting consultant for both the Netherlands and South Africa men’s national teams. Each role added depth to his understanding of player management and team dynamics. His appointment as head coach of the India women’s team in 2023 marked a turning point, not just for the team but also for him personally.
Under his guidance, the squad displayed consistency, discipline, and unity, culminating in India lifting their maiden ICC Women’s World Cup trophy in 2025. For Amol, who once missed out on representing India as a player, the victory became a moment of poetic redemption, a story of perseverance rewarded through leadership.
