Alka Yagnik

A two time National Film Award recipient, and a winner of seven Filmfare awards, Alka Yagnik is most certainly one of the greatest singers of our times & an undisputed melody queen of the 1990s.

As many as twenty of her tracks feature in BBC's ‘Top 40 Bollywood Soundtracks of all time’ including ‘Choli ke Peeche’ from ‘Khalnayak’, ‘Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai’ and many more. In fact, her song ‘Taal Se Taal Mila’ from the movie ‘Taal’ was voted as the best song of the century in a poll conducted by Hindustan Times.

 From the catchy beats of the 80s like ‘Ek Do Teen’ from ‘Tezaab’, and love ballads of the 90s like ‘Ae Mere Humsafar’ from Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, to contemporary romantic songs of the millennial like ‘Agar Tum Saath ho’ from ‘Tamasha’, Alka has been a part of an era of musical transition.

She shares the title with Asha Bhonsle for the most number of Filmfare Awards won, which is seven by a single female playback singer. She has also been the judge of various singing reality shows like ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge’  and ‘Star Voice of India’. 

In a career spanning over three decades, Alka has sung around 2,500 Hindi songs, and a total of 17,000+ songs in different languages including Gujarati, Bengali, Marathi, Bhojpuri, Telugu & Assamese.

She received the Filmfare award for ‘Best Female Playback’ for three consecutive years from 2000 to 2002.

She has sung in many languages other than Hindi, including Nepali, Gujarati, Oriya, Bhojpuri, Rajasthani, Bengali, Punjabi, Telugu, Marathi, Malayalam, and Tamil. She has received numerous awards and nominations in her singing career and is one of the renowned playback singers of Bollywood.
