Aman Sehrawat is a rising star in Indian freestyle wrestling who etched his name in history as the youngest Indian to win an individual Olympic medal, securing a bronze at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. At the tender age of 10, inspired by Sushil Kumar's silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics, Aman began his wrestling training at the prestigious Chhatrasal Stadium in North Delhi. However, his path to greatness was not easy. After losing both his parents by the age of 11, Aman faced severe emotional challenges, including battling depression. Despite these obstacles, his uncle and coach Lalit Kumar provided the support he needed, helping him stay focused on his wrestling career.
Aman's early achievements in wrestling set the stage for his Olympic success. He won gold medals at various levels, including the U17 Asian and World Championships, the U23 Asian and World Championships, and the Asian Wrestling Championships. In 2022, he became the first Indian to win a gold medal at the U23 World Championships, a milestone that highlighted his potential on the global stage.
His journey to the 2024 Olympics was marked by significant victories, including a gold medal at the Zagreb Open and securing India's sole male wrestling quota for the Paris Games by winning the World Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament in Istanbul. Despite losing in the semifinal to the top-seeded Rei Higuchi, Aman's comeback to claim bronze against Darian Cruz showcased his tenacity and skill.
