Arjun Vaidya is the founder of Dr. Vaidya’s, India’s largest Ayurveda brand online, which was recently acquired by the RP Sanjiv Goenka Group, marking one of India’s first D2C exits. He became the first Ayurvedic Entrepreneur to feature in Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia and Business World 40 Under 40 lists, and the company won several awards, including Youth SMB of the Year from Amazon and the Retail Startup Award from the Retailers Association of India.
The name ‘Vaidya,’ meaning Ayurvedic doctor, signifies a 150-year-old family legacy with over 100 proprietary formulations passed down through six generations. Arjun's battle with asthma, which was cured by his grandfather after 14 years, established his belief in Ayurveda's potential. After graduating from Brown University in 2009, where he observed the natural and organic products revolution and the rise of yoga, Arjun saw a similar opportunity for Ayurveda.
In 2013, he joined L Capital Asia (now L Catterton), a growth private equity fund focused on the consumer sector, gaining insights into the Indian consumer market and e-commerce. Following his grandfather’s passing, Arjun quit his job in October 2016 to honor his promise to carry forward the family’s legacy.
Under his leadership, Dr. Vaidya’s modernized Ayurveda for contemporary consumers, reaching over 1.5 million customers across 500+ cities and 16,500+ pin codes in India, with a portfolio of 70+ products.
Currently, Arjun is actively angel investing and mentoring brands in India’s DTC ecosystem. He is a World Economic Forum Global Shaper, a mentor at AIM, part of Brown University’s Young Alumni Advisory Council, and hosts a podcast called 'Direct to a Billion Consumers' about navigating India’s FMCG sector.
Arjun Vaidya has inherited 100 India FDA-approved medical formulations and 50 trademarks accumulated over 150 years, combining family traditions with modern branding and online retail. His company also offers free Ayurvedic doctor consultations to all customers and has launched 38 new products in the past year.
