Dharavi Reloaded
About
In the heart of Mumbai's sprawling Dharavi, one of Asia's largest slums, a transformative initiative emerged in 2009. Known as "Dharavi Reloaded," this unconventional band, a brainchild of Abhijit Jejukar, comprises over 20 talented teenagers who, without any formal musical training, skillfully express themselves using discarded materials found in slums. The band primarily plays African world music, Bollywood, pop, metal, and patriotic numbers.
Dharavi Reloaded is not just a musical endeavor; it is a powerful effort to uplift the lives of its members and strengthen community ties. The band pioneers the use of waste items found within the slums, ingeniously crafting musical instruments from drum barrels, coffee shakers, paint cans, plastic boxes, and more. Their creative process stems from the principles of Recycle, Reuse, and Respect.
Over the years, Dharavi Reloaded has taken its unique brand of music to audiences across India, captivating crowds with more than 300 performances. Their collaborative spirit extends beyond borders, as they have joined forces with both national and international musicians and bands.
Through this innovative musical journey, Dharavi Reloaded not only showcases the potential for artistic expression but also underscores the transformative power of recycling and community engagement.
