About
Filter Coffee is an Ethnotronic (Ethnic and Electronic) collaborative, the brainchild of flautist Shriram and percussionist Swarupa, who organically combine virtuosic improvisation with electronic soundscapes and hypnotic grooves, brewing a signature sound that offers a new look at classical/folk music through a modern electronic perspective.
Shriram Sampath specializes in playing the Indian classical bansuri and has a penchant for experimenting with various flutes from across the globe.
Apart from being a sought-after session artist for films, ad jingles, documentaries, and TV serials, he has collaborated with Talvin Singh and the State of Bengal.
Swarupa Ananth-Sawkar is a percussionist, a disciple of Ustad Allarakha & Ustad Zakir Hussain, who has been playing the tabla for over 20 years. She plays instruments, from the Djembe & Darbuka to the Cajon and Timbale, and is known for her signature & inventive style of blending beats with fiery tabla bols & konnakoll.
Swarupa has worked alongside music director Ram Sampath on Coke Studio and has performed with & in the presence of A.R. Rahman, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Taufiq Qureshi, Shankar Mahadevan, Sona Mohapatra, Kailash Kher, Hariharan, George Brooks & Salim-Sulaiman, to name a few.
After being acclaimed at several prestigious tours and music festivals, the duo released their debut album Raggatronic which was ranked at No. 1 on the iTunes India music charts.
