About
One of the most gifted left-handed openers India has produced, Gautam Gambhir became the first Indian player to score 300+ runs in 4 consecutive Test series.
Gautam Gambhir enjoyed nearly two decades of professional cricket and rose to fame before he decided to retire and move to politics.
He captained the Indian team in 6 ODIs with India winning all 6 matches. He played an integral part in India's wins in the finals of both the 2007 World Twenty20 and the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
The 'Gautam Gambhir Foundation' is his philanthropic initiative. It was started in 2014 and is based out of Delhi. He set up community kitchens in 2017 through the Foundation in Patel Nagar, Delhi, in a bid to make sure no one slept hungry in the city.
His foundation also works with adolescent girls from underprivileged homes in generating awareness on nutrition, health and hygiene, and an effort to make Delhi green by planting trees to fight air pollution in the city.
He is highly noted for his leadership skills and team building capabilities.
In 2019, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and won the election from East Delhi.

He received the ‘Arjuna Award’, India’s second highest sporting award, in 2008. In 2009, he received the ‘ICC Test Player of the Year’ award.
Gautam also received ‘Padma Shri’ in appreciation for his work in sports.
