About
A BA from Stanford University, an MBA from UCLA, and an honorary doctorate from Babson College, Guy Kawasaki is a pioneering American marketing specialist, author, and Silicon Valley venture capitalist. As Apple's chief evangelist, Guy played a key role in marketing the Macintosh, popularizing the term 'evangelist' in the context of technology marketing. His four-year tenure at Apple was marked by his passionate advocacy for the Macintosh, fostering a dedicated community of developers and users.
After leaving Apple in 1987, Guy led ACIUS, the U.S. subsidiary of a French software company, and then pursued his passion for writing and speaking. He wrote for MacUser, Macworld, and Forbes during what he calls his 'Wonder Years.' He also founded Fog City Software, known for its innovative products like Emailer and LetterRip. Guy’s prolific writing career includes books such as 'The Macintosh Way,' 'The Art of the Start 2.0,' 'The Art of Social Media,' and 'Wise Guy: Lessons from a Life.'
In 1995, Guy returned to Apple as an Apple Fellow, helping to rejuvenate the Macintosh cult during a challenging period for the company. In 1997, he co-founded Garage Technology Ventures, a venture capital firm that has made significant investments in companies like Pandora Radio and Tripwire.
Guy's entrepreneurial spirit continued with the founding of Alltop in 2004, an online magazine rack aggregating RSS feeds on various topics. He also joined Google in 2013 as an advisor to Motorola, and in 2014, he became the chief evangelist of Canva, a company dedicated to democratizing design.
From March 2015 to December 2016, Guy served on the board of trustees for the Wikimedia Foundation, supporting the democratization of knowledge. His diverse roles also include being an executive fellow at the Haas School of Business (UC Berkeley) and an adjunct professor at the University of New South Wales
Guy's most recent venture is the 'Remarkable People' podcast, launched in December 2019, where he interviews notable figures like Jane Goodall and Stephen Wolfram. He considers this podcast his best and most underappreciated work.
