Jeremy Lalrinnunga, an Indian weightlifter represented India at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires achieving a historic milestone by winning the gold medal in the Boys' 62 kg category with a total lift of 274 kg (124 kg in snatch and 150 kg in clean and jerk). This victory marked India's first-ever gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games, establishing his status as a promising young athlete.
Continuing his impressive career, Jeremy secured a silver medal at the Asian Weightlifting Championship, demonstrating his consistent performance at international competitions. At the 2019 World Weightlifting Championships, he competed in the Men's 67 kg event, finishing 21st.
His breakthrough came at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where he won gold in the 67 kg category with a record-breaking lift of 140 kg in snatch and 160 kg in clean and jerk. Jeremy also joined the Indian Army as a Naib Subedar in the 17th Battalion of the Brigade of the Guards in May 2019.
Despite his impressive track record, Jeremy's journey has faced setbacks. A back injury in May 2023 prevented him from participating in the trials for the World Weightlifting Championships and the Asian Games, both crucial for qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Despite these challenges, Jeremy remains committed to his rehabilitation at the Army Sports Institute in Pune.
