About

Kalki Koechlin has made her mark in Indian cinema, by being a nonconformist & striving creatively to achieve the perfect portrayal of her unique characters. She is also a regular at theater productions in the country, making her incredibly powerful in expressing herself as an artist.

Kalki made her screen debut with a supporting role in the drama ‘Dev.D’ (2009) winning a Filmfare Award for ‘Best Supporting Actress’. She played a supporting role in the black comedy ‘Emotional Atyachar’ co-starring Ranvir Shorey, Vinay Pathak, and Ravi Kishan. 

Kalki was praised for her performance in ‘Shaitan’. Subsequently, she starred in two of the highest-grossing films, comedy dramas ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ (2011) & ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ (2013).

 She co-wrote the screenplay for the crime thriller ‘That Girl in Yellow Boots’ (2011), in which she also played the lead role. The film was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival, Venice Film Festival & the South Asian International Film Festival.

She frequently uses YouTube as a platform to address issues that she strongly supports such as health & education, women's empowerment, gender equality & more. She has acted in several ‘viral’ videos including AIB's ‘It's Your Fault’, Culture Machine's ‘Printing Machine & Noise’ & Y-Films's web series entitled ‘Man's World’.


In addition to her film career, Kalki Koechlin has written, produced, & acted in several stage plays in India. She co-wrote the drama ‘Skeleton Woman’ (2009), which won her The MetroPlus Playwright Award, & ‘Colour Blind’ (2014). She made her directorial debut on stage with the tragicomedy ‘Living Room’ (2015). 

She has also hosted a travel show, ‘Kalki's Great Escape’, which premiered on Fox Life in 2016.

Kalki has won MetroPlus Playwright Award in ‘Best English Theater Script’ for ‘Skeleton Woman’ in 2009. A Filmfare Award for ‘Best Supporting Actress’ for ‘Dev.D’ in 2010. She also won the Screen Awards for ‘Best Ensemble Cast’ for Shaitan in 2012.

Kalki won ‘Best Actress’ at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, ‘Best Actress(Jury)’ for Screen Awards, ‘Best Actress(Critics)’ at the Times of India Film Awards, and ‘Special Jury Award’ at the National Film Awards for her movie ‘Margarita with a Straw’.

Kalki was awarded the ‘Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters’ by the French government in June 2018.
