About
Revered for his blend of classical and modern elements in music, Lakhwinder Wadali rose to fame in the world of Sufi music, with his scintillating voice. He gained the limelight with 'Rab Manneyaa' (2021), which was also his Bollywood debut as a playback singer. However, in the Punjabi music industry, he made a mark for himself with the hit song ‘Mere Mahi’ (2004), and since then, he has gone on to release many chart-topping singles such as ‘Jogiya’ and ‘Sohniye’. In 2018, he released his debut album titled ‘Rang’ which was met with great success.
Hailing from a lineage of renowned musicians, Lakhwinder Wadali belongs to the illustrious Wadali family, known for the iconic sufi Qawal duo ‘The Wadali Brothers’ , his father, and his uncle. Under the guidance of his father and guru, Padamshree Puran Chand Wadali, he underwent extensive training in classical music.
In recognition of his commitment to preserving and promoting Punjabi folk music, Lakhwinder has received numerous prestigious awards. Among them are the PTC Channel Punjabi Music Award for ‘Best Debut Album’ in 2005, and the title of ‘Best Sufi Singer of Punjab’ bestowed by Watno Dur Channel in Vancouver, Canada, also in 2005.
Additionally, he has been honored with the PTC Channel Punjabi Music Award for ‘Best Sufi Song’ in 2007, the Best Singer Award presented by the Canadian Government in Toronto, Canada, in 2009, and the Hamdard Award in 2013.
Lakhwinder is known for his unique style of singing, and his songs are often characterized by romantic lyrics and catchy beats, while alaaps and taans are the vital aspects of his music.
His repertoire mostly includes renditions of Sufi Saints, romantic folk numbers, ghazals, bhajans, and bhangra. From Sufi Qawwalis to contemporary hits, Lakhwinder Wadali’s performances are a true delight for music lovers.
