Manganiyar Classroom
About
Manganiyar Classroom by Roysten Abel features 30 boys aged 8 to 16 that highlight the Manganiyar musical traditions of Rajasthan. It’s a joyous theatrical experience that captivates yet also stirs a protest against the prevailing education system in India.
Continuation of Roysten’s earlier work Manganiyar Seduction, the Manganiyar Classroom is a buoyant, energetic production showcasing the young inheritors and the music of the Manganiyar people, a community of Muslim musicians who are facing an unexpected threat: the rigidity of the modern school system.
They participated in India’s Got Talent season 7 in the year 2016 leaving the audience and the judges in awe of their performances.
With sublime voices matched by their onstage attitude & vocal acrobatics, the children of The Manganiyar Classroom rebel against their teacher, spontaneously creating beautiful music before your eyes using percussions & other instruments.
The boys, each of them a repository of song, dance and rhythm, present their glorious musical heritage in a classroom ambiance, stunning the audience with their talent.
The proceeds from Manganiyar Classroom go towards creating specialist schools for Manganiyar children, to enable them to learn widely but in a way that allows them to continue to develop the musical traditions for which they are renowned.
