From his role as the Principal Economic Advisor to the Government of India to his extensive contributions to literature and sustainable development, Sanjeev Sanyal is a proficient Indian economist with an impressive career spanning over two decades. As the principal economic advisor to the Government of India, Sanjeev helped prepare six editions of the Economic Survey of India. In 2022, he was appointed member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister in the rank of Secretary to the Government of India.
Graduating from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi, and later pursuing studies at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, Sanjeev's academic journey laid the foundation for his illustrious career. He was the Global Strategist and Managing Director at Deutsche Bank until 2015.
Not just an economist, but also a prolific author some of Sanjeev’s best-selling books, include ‘Land of the Seven Rivers’, ‘The Indian Renaissance’, and ‘The Ocean of Churn’ which offer insightful perspectives on Indian history and culture. In March 2023, Sanjeev led the first edition of the Delhi University Literature Festival as its patron, alongside Swapan Dasgupta as the festival director.
Sanjeev is also committed to environmental sustainability and urban dynamics and has co-founded the Green Indian States Trust with Pavan Sukhdev. He is also involved in initiatives like the Future City Sub-Committee of the Singapore government.

Sanjeev received the International Indian Achievers Award for Literature in 2014 and the Best Non-fiction Book Award at the Kalinga Literary Festival in 2022 for his book ‘Revolutionaries: The Other Story of How India Won its Freedom’.
Recognized globally for his contributions, Sanjeev’s honors, include being named as Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2010 and receiving the KPS Menon Memorial Award in 2023 for his exceptional economic policy-making and public service.
