About
Sutapa Sanyal is a distinguished consultant, advisor, and trainer, renowned for her expertise in Leadership, Gender & Diversity, Social Inclusion, and Public Policy. As the first woman Indian Police Service (IPS) officer to serve as Director General of Police in the U.P., she received the Police Medal for Distinguished Services from the Honorable President of India. With over three decades of leadership experience, Sutapa has designed and executed innovative programs for social inclusion and gender equality.
As the founder of the U.P. Police Mahila Samman Prakoshth (MSP), an award-winning police unit, she empowered over 175 million women and children. Her initiatives, such as ‘Vikalp’, India’s first police portal for reporting crimes against women and children, and ‘Nav Chetna’, a training module on gender equality, garnered national recognition. Under her leadership, MSP received prestigious awards like the FICCI SMART Policing Award and Digital Empowerment Foundation’s ‘Manthan’ Award.
Sutapa's contributions extend beyond policing. She served as Advisor (Security) to GAIL India Ltd., Chairperson of the Internal Complaints Committee of UP Police, and Member of the Advisory Committee of CARA.
Currently, she consults for the Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation. Her efforts in ending violence against women (EVAW) and anti-human trafficking have been recognized internationally, including by the US Department of State and INTERPOL.

Sutapa was honored as an ‘Indian Woman Leader’ by the British High Commission and was invited to participate in a dialogue with Members of Parliament and other eminent civil society leaders of the U.K.
She also represented the Govt. in the discussions with delegations from Canada and the EU, to provide insight on gender issues
