Trinetra Haldar Gummaraju

About
Dr. Trinetra Haldar Gummaraju is a doctor, actor, activist, and one of the most influential LGBTQ+ voices in India today. Celebrated as Karnataka’s first transgender woman doctor, Trinetra has consistently broken barriers across medicine, media, policy, and public discourse, while bringing visibility to conversations around gender, healthcare, and identity.
During her time at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, Trinetra became one of the first Indians to openly document her medico-socio-legal transition online through deeply personal YouTube vlogs. Her candid storytelling around gender-affirmation surgery and trans healthcare sparked nationwide conversations and helped countless people better understand the realities of transition and inclusive medical care. She also actively challenged transphobia within Indian medical education, contributing to conversations around removing outdated and discriminatory material from academic textbooks.
Trinetra made her mainstream acting debut with Amazon Prime’s critically acclaimed series ‘Made in Heaven Season 2’, where she played Meher Chaudhry, becoming the first trans woman actor in India to portray a lead trans character in a major Indian web series. She further expanded her screen presence with the docu-series ‘Rainbow Rishta’ and the thriller series ‘Kankhajura’, steadily establishing herself as a fresh and important face in Indian entertainment.
Beyond acting, Trinetra has emerged as a respected public speaker and youth voice across legal, academic, and corporate spaces. She has addressed judges at the Madras High Court on gender sensitisation, spoken at platforms like the ‘India Today Conclave’ and ‘Republic Youth Summit’, and regularly participates in conversations around inclusive healthcare, mental health, workplace allyship, and queer rights. Her appearances on leading podcasts and digital platforms have further positioned her as a thoughtful and articulate cultural commentator.
Trinetra also hosts ‘The Trinetra Method’, a detailed educational content series documenting the realities of gender transition, healthcare systems, and social identity. Alongside her advocacy work, she has become a prominent face in fashion and lifestyle media, appearing in leading publications such as ‘Harper’s Bazaar India’ and ‘GQ India’.
