About

 Manjari Jaruhar is a trailblazer in Indian law enforcement, being one of the first five women police officers in the country and the very first from the state of Bihar. Selected for the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1976, she has had an illustrious career spanning several decades, during which she held significant positions in both state and central law enforcement agencies, including the State Governments of Bihar and Jharkhand, the National Police Academy (NPA), the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Her tenure as the Special Director General of CISF is particularly notable, where she displays exemplary leadership in a field traditionally dominated by men.

Throughout her career,  Manjari has led teams through complex and challenging assignments, demonstrating her ability to navigate and manage large, multifaceted organizations. Her expertise extends to the security and protection of large undertakings, recruitment, and personnel management, planning and inductions, and the management of training programs. Additionally, she is a strong advocate for gender issues, working tirelessly to create inclusive and supportive environments for women in law enforcement.

 Manjari has visited Afghanistan at the invitation of OXFAM and the Research Institute of Women Peace and Security, where she provided insights into the development of an effective women's police force, advocating for their professionalization and mainstreaming.

Currently,  Manjari serves as an Advisor to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in New Delhi, bringing her vast experience in security and personnel management to the corporate sector. She also holds the position of Chief Coordinator with the Indian Music Industry (IMI) and is a Senior Advisor to 9.9 Media. 

Further, she has taken on the role of Chairperson of the Committee on Private Security Industry at the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI).

Manjari’s remarkable contributions have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Government of India’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service. Additionally, she has been awarded the Director General’s Commendation Disc three times—twice with CISF and once with CRPF—acknowledging her outstanding service and dedication to duty.
