Vicky Roy
About
With Rs 900 in his pocket, when an 11-year-old Vicky Roy ran away from his village in West Bengal, the only thing he knew was that he had to survive.
After he ran away from home, he became a ragpicker to earn pocket money. Finding refuge at an NGO for street children, he met a photographer there and this chance meeting changed his life. He is now an internationally acclaimed photographer, for his work under the banner ‘Street Dream’.
He initially studied photography at Triveni Kala Sangam and then apprenticed under Anay Mann.
In 2007, his first solo exhibition, ‘Street Dream’ was sponsored by the British High Commission. In 2008, he was selected by the US-based Maybach foundation to document the reconstruction of the World Trade Center which got him noticed.

Vicky was also featured in ‘Forbes 30 under 30’ Asia 2016 list.
His first monograph ‘Home Street Home’ published by the Nazar Foundation was released at the second edition of the Delhi photo festival (2013) and was also awarded the ‘MIT Media Fellowship’ in 2014.

Vicky now focuses on helping the disadvantaged by giving them a voice through his photography. In his talk, he shares his journey from life on the streets, to his life as a celebrated professional photographer.
