About
From an actor to screenwriter to becoming a director, Saurabh Shukla’s work is exceptional. Whether it’s ‘Kallu mama’ from Satya, ‘Justice Sundelal Tripathi’ from Jolly LLB, ‘Tapasvi Maharaj’ from PK or ‘Tauji’ from Raid; his brilliant adaptation of the characters into his performance in movies has been appreciated and earned him wide recognition.
Saurabh Shukla began his career as a theater artist in 1986 with plays like A View From The Bridge, Look Back In Anger, Ghashiram Kotwal and Hayvadan. In 1991, he joined the professional wing of the National School of Drama and got a break the next year in Bandit Queen, a specially written role for him by Shekhar Kapur.
Saurabh did a role in Doordarshan crime drama Tehkikaat and also acted in Zee TV’s 9 Malabar Hill. He is also a part of a comic theater play 2 to Tango, 3 to Jive.
Saurabh’s biggest break came when he co-wrote the script of Ram Gopal Varma’s classic cult Satya in 1998 and also played the role of a gangster Kallu mama. He won the Star Screen Award for Best Screenplay alongside Anurag Kashyap.
In 2003, he wrote the screenplay for Calcutta Mail. He acted in his first international film, the Golden Globe and Academy Award-winning Slumdog Millionaire, as the character Constable Srinivas.
In 2013, he played the character of a cop Sudhanshu Dutta in Barfi starring Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’Cruza directed by Anurag Basu.
His notable work also includes PK, Jolly LLB 2, Raid, Pagalpanti, Madam Chief Minister to name a few.

- Saurabh received his first award, the ‘Zee Cine Award for Best Screenplay’ for Calcutta Mail.
- In 2014, he won the National Film Award for ‘Best Supporting Actor’ for his role in Jolly LLB.
