Jagan Krishnan

Jagan Krishnan, is a seasoned performer in the Chennai stand-up comedy circuit. Jagan is renowned for his ability to blend music and comedy seamlessly. His debut solo special, ‘Jagane Thandhiram’, is a musical romantic comedy that has garnered global recognition, leading to sold-out tours in India, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Dubai, Australia, and New Zealand. He is known for his flagship shows, ‘Oru Time Pakalam’ and ‘Acadummy Awards’, Jagan has earned acclaim for his storytelling and comic timings. 

Initially, comedy wasn't a career Jagan envisioned. After graduating from Rajalakshmi Engineering College in 2010, he worked as a systems analyst and later as an IT consultant at Cognizant. It was during his tenure at Cognizant that his passion for comedy was reignited, inspired by comedians like Russell Peters, Gabriel Iglesias, and particularly Scottish comedian Frankie Boyle.

Cognizant's internal stand-up comedy club provided Jagan with a platform to hone his skills. His breakthrough came when he performed for an audience of 500 colleagues, securing second place in a company competition. This exposure led him to the Chennai open-mic circuit, where he connected with comedians such as Praveen Kumar, Karthik Kumar, and Raja Sekhar Mamidanna, eventually co-founding the comedy collective Evam Standup Tamasha.

Teaming up with comedian Mervyn Rozario, the duo created ‘Oru Time’, a hybrid stand-up comedy show that combines traditional comedy with musical elements. Their show was a tremendous success, selling out venues across South India and extending their reach to international audiences in Malaysia. 

Jagan has cultivated a substantial following with his musical comedy bits, often mimicking the styles of popular Tamil film composers and musicians. His humorous take on the singing style of Sid Sriram, amassed 1.4 million views. Encouraged by the positive reception, Jagan developed his first solo hour, ‘Jagane Thandhiram’ during the lockdown. This rom-com musical, featuring original music, narrates his love story through the nostalgic lens of '80s and '90s romantic films.

Jagan continues to be a prominent figure in the comedy scene, regularly performing in southern cities like Chennai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad. His innovative approach to comedy, blending sharp wit with musical talent, makes him a dynamic performer in the world of stand-up comedy.
