Revered as the chocolate boy of Bollywood, Shahid set his foot in the industry as a lead in the romantic comedy ‘Ishq Vishk’ (2003). The movie won him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. However, that was not Shahid’s first screen presence!
Trained in the Shiamak Davar’s dance institute, Shahid’s journey in Bollywood began as a background dancer in the 1990s in movies like ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’ (1997) and ‘Taal’ (1999), besides being featured in a few TV commercials, and music videos.
The turning point in his career came with the role of ‘Aditya’ in Imtiaz Ali’s romantic comedy ‘Jab We Met’ (2007), which is etched in the hearts of all cinema lovers to date. Shahid’s versatility as an actor shone through when he switched from portraying romantic roles. His role in Vishal Bhardwaj's ‘Haider’ (2014) an adaptation of ‘Hamlet’ received acclaim from fans and critics alike. Embracing yet another experimental character, ‘Tommy Singh’, in ‘Udtaa Punjab’ (2016), Shahid delivered a spectacular performance.
Some of his nuanced performances throughout his career include the family drama ‘Vivah’ (2006), the action film ‘Kaminey’ (2009), the period drama ‘Padmaavat (2018)’, and the romantic drama ‘Kabir Singh’ (2019).
Shahid made his debut in the digital space with his critically acclaimed web series crime drama series ‘Farzi’ (2023) and action film ‘Bloody Daddy’ (2023).
