Udit Narayan

A young boy from Mithilanchal who fulfilled his ambition of becoming a playback singer. It was the song ‘Papa Kehte Hain’ from ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’, that catapulted him into overnight stardom, and the rest, as they say, is history. 

 In his four-decade long career that spans ‘Jaadu Teri Nazar’, ‘Pehla Nasha’, ‘Mehendi Laga Ke Rakhna’, ‘Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast’, ‘Pardesi Pardesi’ & ‘Mitwa’, Udit Narayan has sung with legends like Mohammed Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. He has won four National Film Awards and Five Filmfare Awards so far in his singing career. 

The popularity of the song ‘Pehla Nasha’  from the movie ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’ was another turning point in his career, catapulting his fame and fanhood to greater levels.

He was awarded the ‘Padma Shri’ in 2009, and in 2016 he was awarded the ‘Padma Bhushan’ by the Government of India, an honour that has been awarded to only a handful of singers. He was also awarded the ‘Prabal Gorkha Dakshin Bahu’, an order of Knighthood, by the King of Nepal in 2001.

As many as 21 of his tracks feature in BBC's ‘Top 40 Bollywood Soundtracks of all time’.

Having sung more than 25,000 songs in 36 different languages, Udit Narayan has left an indelible mark on the history of Indian music. 

Udit crooned several chartbusters and has even  launched his own YouTube channel to mark his four decades in Bollywood. He's considered one of the most prolific singers of his generation.
