Best known for her distinct yodelling style of singing, Shanmukha Priya made her debut in reality singing in the TV show ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L'il Champs’ in 2008 on Zee Telugu. However it was her performance on ‘Indian Idol season 12’, that truly gained her widespread popularity and acclaim.
After watching her jazz-style performance to the song ‘Jaane Tu Mera Kya Hai’ from the film ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ on the show, A. R. Rahman praised her and termed her as the next ‘Jazz Star of India’.
She made her debut in reality singing when she was 6 and went on to become a playback singer by recording a song for the Telugu film ‘Tejam’ in 2010.
Shanmukha has appeared on numerous popular reality television shows, including ‘Padutha Theeyaga S6’, ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L'il Champs’ and ‘Indian Idol 12’.
Even though she did not win Indian Idol season 12, she managed to kick start her Bollywood career with the song ‘Manchali’ in Vijay Deverkinda’s movie ‘Liger’.
Shanmukha Priya has also won several awards and titles such as "Golden Voice of India" by the Rotary Club, "Star of the Year" award by the International Tamil Academy, and "Voice of the Year" by Radio Mirchi. She has also collaborated with renowned musicians and composers, including AR Rahman and Shankar Mahadevan.
A versatile singer who specialises in carnatic music, jazz, rock, pop and yodelling, Shanmukha has always added a personal touch to the songs she sings and has left audiences mesmerised. While she experiments and adds new variations to songs, she is popular for singing high-pitch songs.
