About
Known for her impressive roles in independent films, Konkona Sen Sharma first gained prominence with the English-language film ‘Mr. and Mrs. Iyer’ (2002), directed by her mother, Aparna Sen. Konkona won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in this movie. Being the daughter of filmmaker and actress Aparna Sen, Konkona is blessed with innate talent. She made her debut as a child artist in the film ‘Indira’ (1983) and there was no looking back since.
After her critically acclaimed work in Bengali cinema with movies like ‘Ek Je Aachhe Kanya’, followed by a role in Rituparno Ghosh's acclaimed film ‘Titli’(2002), opposite Mithun Chakraborty, Konkona ventured into Hindi cinema.
It was her role in Madhur Bhandarkar's drama ‘Page 3’, that gained her recognition in the Bollywood and also earned her the Zee Cine Award for Best Female Debut.
Known to choose unconventional roles throughout her career, Konkona has portrayed some of the most critically appreciated roles. Some of these roles are in films like Vishal Bhardwaj's crime drama ‘Omkara’ (2006), ‘Traffic Signal’ (2007), ‘ Life in a... Metro’, women-centric drama ‘Laaga Chunari Mein Daag’, to name a few.
Not just a prolific actor but Konkona is also a phenomenal director. She made her directorial debut with the English-language drama ‘A Death in the Gunj’, which starred an ensemble cast including Vikrant Massey and Kalki Koechlin. The film premiered at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival and received widespread critical acclaim upon theatrical release.
She made her OTT directorial debut with Netflix anthology film ‘Lust Stories 2’. Her segment titled ‘The Mirror’ won her the Filmfare OTT Award for Best Web Original Film (Critics).

She won the Best Actress award at the New York Indian Film Festival and the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne for her role in comedy-drama ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’. She also won two consecutive Filmfare Awards for Best Supporting Actress for her performances in the dramas ‘Omkara’ (2006) and ‘Life in a… Metro (2007)’.
