About
There is an instinctive quality to the Clive Vaz Collective, where compositions take shape through live improvisation rather than following a fixed arrangement. Led by Mumbai-based multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer Clive Vaz, the project brings together organic instruments, electronic production and musicians from different musical traditions.
Clive moves between the bansuri, concert flute, didgeridoo, hulusi, handpan and percussion, creating the foundation for a rotating ensemble of musicians. The Collective has featured Gursharan Singh on rabab and sarod and Rahul Bakshi on tabla and kanjira, alongside instruments such as the balafon, djembe and frame drums. The result is a sound that moves through world fusion, ambient music, lounge and organic deep house.
The Collective’s approach is rooted in the idea of “music created in the moment.” Live sessions leave room for improvisation and unexpected instrument pairings, allowing each performance to develop organically. One of its defining presentations, ‘Around the World in 60 Minutes’, was recorded as a live audio-visual set at Richardson Crudass Mill in Mumbai.
Clive’s original music has also found an international home through labels including Caf De Anatolia, with releases such as ‘Desert Moon’ and ‘Arabian Sea’. His work has taken the Collective into experiential spaces, corporate lounges, cultural festivals and curated events, including the BMW Collectors' Lounge.
