Angaraag Mahanta, better known by his stage name, Papon, is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer & singer. He gained wide acclaim & popularity after singing for all three seasons of Coke Studio India. His song ‘Moh Moh Ke Dhaage’ from the film ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ won him multiple awards & accolades.
He is an Assamese playback singer and songwriter who sings in various languages including Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Tamil, and Marathi. He is the principal singer and founder of Papon and The East India Co., a folk-fusion band.
Other Bollywood songs by him include ‘Jiyein Kyun’ from ‘Dum Maaro Dum’, ‘Zindagi Aisi Waisi’ for ‘I Am Kalam’, ‘Kyon’ for ’Barfi!’, ‘Kuch Nahi’ from ‘Tubelight’ (2017), ‘Bulleya’ from ‘Sultan’ & many more.
Papon has a number of accolades to his name, he won the IIFA Award for ‘Best Male Playback Singer’, the Mirchi Music Award for ‘Male Vocalist of the Year’, and the GiMA Award for ‘Best Male Playback Singer’. He was one of the judges in ‘The Voice India Kids’ and has also produced several songs in Coke Studio @ MTV. He has also performed with his band at many universities, concerts and music festivals like SAARC Music Band Festival, Sutasi, Eastwind Festival and BITS Pilani.
They also played at the October Fest in Bangalore, NH7 Weekender fest in Pune & the Rock for Rights concert in New Delhi.
They can perform traditional folk songs of eastern India to ghazals to new-age electronica. Papon & The East India Co. have become highly sought after in the live event circuit for the versatility & wide array of music they bring to stage
